Apple has released a new beta firmware update for its AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 models. The update, identified as build 8A5308b, brings new features like camera controls, enhanced CarPlay handoff, and improved voice isolation.

Both USB-C and Lightning versions of the AirPods Pro 2 are eligible for this update. However, AirPods Max and other non-H2 chip models are not included in this rollout.

What’s New in the Firmware

The beta introduces support for camera control features first announced during Apple’s iOS 26 launch. Users can now operate certain iPhone and iPad cameras using their AirPods. The firmware also enhances CarPlay integration by making handoffs between Apple devices smoother and more responsive.

One standout feature is a new voice isolation mode powered by the H2 chip. This upgrade aims to improve audio clarity during phone calls or FaceTime sessions, especially in noisy environments.

How to Access the Beta Firmware

To install the firmware, users must have a registered Apple developer account. While iOS and macOS betas are easy to download, AirPods updates are more complex. Users must first enable Developer Mode under “Privacy & Security” settings. From there, they can select their AirPods model under the “Pre-Release Beta Firmware” section in the Developer tab.

The installation process also requires a device running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS Tahoe. In some cases, users may need to connect their iPhone to a Mac with the latest version of Xcode beta.

Looking Ahead

Apple continues to test and refine its audio experience across devices. These firmware updates let developers explore new features early, paving the way for a more seamless user experience when the full release arrives.

With frequent updates and expanded functionality, Apple’s ecosystem remains tightly integrated—and these changes show the tech giant isn’t slowing down.
