Apple is close to winning the U.S. streaming rights for Formula One races starting in 2026. The tech company has reportedly offered $150 million. Current rights holder ESPN is unlikely to match the bid, according to sources cited by Business Insider.

This bid supports Apple’s ongoing push into live sports. Apple TV+ already streams all Major League Soccer (MLS) games and selected Major League Baseball (MLB) matches. Adding Formula One could make Apple TV+ more appealing to global sports fans.

Movie Sparks Real Racing Ambitions

Apple’s move comes after the success of its Formula One movie starring Brad Pitt. The film increased interest in F1 across the U.S. It also boosted Apple’s motivation to bring real F1 coverage to its streaming platform.

By securing live race rights, Apple hopes to build on that momentum. The goal is to attract new viewers and deepen user engagement.

Building a Sports Streaming Hub

Apple is also competing with ESPN for rights to Sunday night MLB games. If it wins, Apple might include the games in a separate sports add-on, similar to its MLS Season Pass.

The company also launched a Sports app for iPhones and iPads. The app gives users real-time scores and stats for leagues like the NBA, MLS, and MLB.

Apple previously lost its bid for NFL Sunday Ticket to YouTube in 2022. But the company may try again when those rights come up for renewal in 2029.

What This Means for Apple TV+

Winning the F1 rights would mark a major step in Apple’s sports expansion. While Apple, ESPN, and Liberty Media have not commented, an announcement could be coming soon.

If successful, this deal will strengthen Apple TV+ as a rising force in sports streaming—and bring F1 racing to millions of new viewers.
