Apple TV+ has confirmed that its hit drama Severance will return for a third season. The announcement comes as the show celebrates 27 Emmy nominations, including nods for writing, acting, and directing. However, fans hoping for an immediate release will have to wait a bit longer.
Avoiding Another Long Delay
Speaking to Variety, Apple TV+ head of programming assured viewers that the wait will not mirror the three-year gap between seasons one and two. “No one wants it to be another three-year gap,” he said. While a production start date has not been set, Apple is moving toward preproduction.

Writer Dan Erickson and executive producers, including Ben Stiller, are already shaping the next season. “They’re going as quickly as they can,” the executive added, noting that delivering high-quality storytelling takes time.
A Show at Its Peak
The Emmy nominations highlight Severance as one of Apple TV+’s biggest success stories. Apple secured a record 81 total nominations this year while submitting just 26 shows for consideration. For comparison, Netflix submitted 113 shows and received 120 nominations.
This recognition cements Severance as a critical favorite and a cornerstone for Apple’s growing streaming portfolio. Apple executives emphasize that maintaining this quality is a top priority for season 3.
Awards and Streaming Details
The winners of the 77th Emmy Awards will be announced across three ceremonies in September. Technical categories will be revealed on September 6 and 7, while acting and directing awards will be announced live on September 14.
