Apple has announced plans to close its long-standing store at The Mall at Partridge Creek in Clinton Township, Michigan. The move comes as the company prepares to open a new flagship store in downtown Detroit later this year.

The Partridge Creek location, which opened in 2007, has served the community for nearly two decades. Apple confirmed that its lease will not be renewed, though the exact closure date has not been disclosed.

New Flagship Store Coming Soon

Rumors about a Detroit store surfaced in June 2024, and Apple confirmed the project earlier this year. The upcoming location, referred to as “Downtown Detroit,” will be situated along Woodward Avenue between 1426 and 1434. Apple has already started recruiting for positions at the new store, signaling a significant investment in the region.

In a statement, Apple expressed excitement for the transition: “We’ve loved serving the Partridge Creek community for nearly 20 years and look forward to welcoming our customers at our other Detroit metro stores.”

Employee and Customer Options

Current employees at Partridge Creek will have opportunities to continue their roles at other Apple locations, including the new Detroit store and nearby outlets like Twelve Oaks in Novi and Somerset in Troy. For customers, these locations will continue to provide support and services.

When the new Detroit store opens, the number of Apple Stores in the Detroit metro area will remain at three, maintaining Michigan’s statewide total at six.

Why the Move Matters

Apple’s decision reflects a broader trend of relocating stores to high-traffic urban centers. The downtown Detroit location is expected to attract more foot traffic and provide a modern retail experience compared to the suburban mall setting.
