Meta has intensified its AI hiring spree by recruiting two more senior engineers from Apple. This comes shortly after the company lured Ruoming Pang, the former head of Apple Foundation Models (AFM), with a $200 million sign-on bonus.
Who Meta Just Hired
Bloomberg reports that the new hires are Mark Lee and Tom Gunter, both key figures from Pang’s previous team. Lee was Pang’s first hire at Apple, while Gunter spent eight years there as a distinguished engineer. He officially left the company in late June.

The pair will now join Meta’s Superintelligence Labs (MSL). This division already includes industry leaders like former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, Scale AI co-founder Alexandr Wang, and AI entrepreneur Daniel Gross.
Zuckerberg’s Big AI Ambitions
CEO Mark Zuckerberg has stated he is ready to spend “hundreds of billions” to build advanced AI infrastructure. Meta has approached top talent across the tech world, offering huge packages to secure the best minds.
OpenAI confirmed that Meta tried to hire several of its employees. Some offers included bonuses as high as $100 million. This move shows how aggressively Meta is pursuing AI dominance.
Why It Matters
The race for elite AI talent is heating up as tech giants compete for the same pool of experts. These high-stakes moves reveal just how critical AI innovation has become for the future of technology.
