Apple has introduced a major update to its device protection plans. For the first time, iPad and Apple Watch users can add theft and loss coverage through AppleCare+. This new option, launching July 24, expands Apple’s existing subscription-based service and marks the first significant policy change since February 2025.

The updated plan is part of Apple’s move to make coverage more flexible. Instead of paying upfront for two or three years, customers can now subscribe monthly or annually and cancel anytime.

Pricing and What’s Included

Under the new plan, iPad coverage costs $4.99 per month (or $49.99 annually) with a $129 service fee per claim. Apple Watch coverage costs $2.99 per month (or $29.99 annually) with a $199 service fee per claim. Customers can make up to two theft or loss claims per year, and repairs for accidental damage remain unlimited.

Subscribers also receive 24/7 priority support from Apple. However, there are conditions: Find My must be enabled on the device for coverage to apply.

What’s Not Covered

Certain accessories, such as the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard, aren’t included under theft and loss protection. While these items can be covered for accidental damage through the AppleCare One bundle, doing so counts toward its three-device limit. For Apple Watch users, the replacement unit will include an Apple-branded band, regardless of whether the original was a premium option like Hermes or Nike. Coverage does not extend to lost bands alone.
