Apple is preparing to roll out a new AI-based feature for its Home app that will automatically adjust your thermostat based on your behavior and energy needs. Leaked code from iOS 26 reveals an upcoming tool called “Adaptive Temperature,” which uses Apple Intelligence to manage home heating and cooling more efficiently.
How Adaptive Temperature Works
The new feature adjusts your thermostat depending on whether you’re home, away, or asleep. It can also predict when you’re about to arrive home and change the temperature accordingly. This works similarly to how Apple Maps anticipates your destination based on your habits and calendar.

Steve Moser, a well-known code sleuth, discovered references to this tool in the iOS 26 beta. Terms like “clean energy,” “adaptive temperature,” and “at home” suggest deeper integration with Apple’s ecosystem, especially with services like Apple Maps and clean energy forecasting.
Energy-Efficient and Predictive
One standout feature is the tool’s ability to consider your energy provider and location. It will make small changes to your thermostat settings when energy sources are less clean, helping reduce your carbon footprint. For example, it might slightly raise or lower the temperature during peak hours to save power without sacrificing comfort.
This follows Apple’s earlier energy efforts, such as the “Grid Forecast” feature introduced in iOS 17 and expanded in iOS 18. That tool lets users see when clean energy is most available, helping them plan tasks like charging electric vehicles or running appliances.
When Will It Launch?
Although the feature was not publicly announced at WWDC, its presence in beta code suggests a release is on the horizon. Apple may bundle it with iOS 26.4 or a future homeOS update, possibly alongside new hardware like its rumored smart display.
