Authorities are investigating the theft of a Ceva Logistics trailer containing an estimated $15 million worth of Apple and AMD products. The incident occurred on July 3 in Reno, Nevada, after the trailer was left unattended in an unsecured lot.

According to Freightwaves, the trailer had been dispatched from Sacramento, California, to Sierra Airfreight Express in Reno. After arriving, it was left after hours without guards or fencing, and detached from its tractor.

How the Theft Happened

Police reports remain limited, but an anonymous source shared more details. The thief reportedly drove a tractor into the lot, connected it to the trailer, and drove away without resistance.

While the specific Apple products inside remain unknown, the shipment also included AMD processors. Whether these were finished goods or components has not been disclosed.

Company and Police Response

So far, Ceva Logistics, Apple, and AMD have not issued public statements. Police confirmed only that a manager discovered the trailer was missing from the lot. The investigation is ongoing.

Apple is no stranger to theft, with incidents often involving retail store break-ins or package interceptions. However, the theft of a full trailer from an unsecured location is unusual and may prompt the company to re-examine its shipping security protocols.

Security Concerns in Tech Logistics

Billions of dollars in electronics move across the U.S. each year. While transport security is generally robust, lapses like unsecured lots create opportunities for large-scale theft. This case highlights the need for better safeguards, especially when transporting high-value goods.

As investigators work to recover the stolen merchandise, the incident serves as a costly reminder that even tech giants remain vulnerable when supply chain security falters.
