Apple has introduced a fresh developer beta firmware for the AirPods Pro 2 and the newly launched AirPods 4, continuing its push to enhance the personal audio experience. The update, released on Tuesday, brings build number 8A5343a, replacing the earlier 8A5324b.

Key Features in Testing

The latest firmware works exclusively on devices running Apple’s upcoming fall software lineup, including iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe. Among the trial features are:

  • New camera controls designed to integrate more deeply with Apple devices.
  • Voice isolation powered by the H2 chip, improving call clarity in noisy environments.
  • Enhanced CarPlay hand-off, making transitions between iPhone and car audio smoother.

These additions highlight Apple’s goal of tightening the ecosystem across hardware and software. However, the update excludes other models like the AirPods Max, focusing only on the Pro 2 and AirPods 4 in both USB-C and Lightning versions.

Installation Comes with Caution

Installing beta firmware on AirPods isn’t as straightforward as updating an iPhone. Users must:

  1. Run their host device on iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS Tahoe.
  2. Enable Developer Mode in Settings > Privacy & Security.
  3. Navigate to Developer > AirPods Testing and select Pre-Release Beta Firmware.

Apple cautions users against running the beta on mission-critical devices due to the risk of bugs or data loss.

Looking Ahead

This beta release aligns with Apple’s broader fall update cycle, hinting that the official rollout may coincide with iOS 26’s public launch. For now, developers and early testers get the first look at features that could redefine how AirPods integrate with everyday Apple experiences.
