Apple has launched its long-awaited Music migration tool in the United States. The feature, already available in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the UK, now lets Spotify users move their music libraries into Apple’s ecosystem without hassle.
How the Tool Works
The tool, powered by SongShift, transfers playlists, liked songs, albums, and saved libraries. Users open the Apple Music app on iPhone, iPad, or Android, go to Settings, and select Transfer Music from Other Music Services.

After signing in to Spotify or another supported account, users choose the music they want to move. Apple then matches the songs with its catalog. If a song has no direct match, Apple suggests alternatives, and users can confirm them. Their original music libraries on Spotify remain unchanged.
Browser Option and Review Window
Users can also transfer through a browser at music.apple.com. Apple gives up to 30 days to review unmatched songs and confirm alternatives. This step ensures playlists remain accurate, even when exact tracks are missing.
Competing with Spotify
This tool removes one of the biggest barriers for Spotify users—the risk of losing years of curated playlists. Apple wants to attract more subscribers by making the transition smooth and reliable. With Apple Music available in 167 countries, the rollout is expected to expand further.
Looking Ahead
Apple’s move highlights its push to close the gap with Spotify, the global leader in music streaming. By focusing on convenience and accuracy, Apple positions its service as a strong option for users ready to switch platforms.
