Apple will unveil the iPhone 17 lineup at its “Awe Dropping” event on September 9. Analysts at TrendForce expect the Pro and Air models to gain 12GB of RAM, while the base iPhone 17 will likely stay at 8GB.
This would mark Apple’s first jump beyond 8GB in select phones. More memory should help with gaming, multitasking, and Apple Intelligence features, but real-world gains will depend on apps.

New Chips and More Storage
All iPhone 17 models are expected to run on the new A19 series processors. The standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air may ship with the A19 chip. The Pro and Pro Max could use the more advanced A19 Pro.
Reports also suggest the Air, Pro, and Pro Max will start with 256GB of storage. The base iPhone 17, however, may stay closer to the iPhone 16 with 8GB of RAM.
Aiming at Samsung
Apple’s decision to boost the Air model could signal a direct challenge to Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge. Samsung markets the Edge as a slim yet powerful device. Apple may try to match that pitch with its new Air.
Looking Ahead
Earlier leaks claimed that all four iPhone 17 models would get 12GB RAM. TrendForce, however, predicts only the Pro and Air will see the upgrade. With the September 9 launch approaching, buyers will soon know which rumors hold true.
