Apple TV+ has struck a major deal to bring the next chapter of Gavin and Stacey’s legacy to its streaming platform. The creators, James Corden and Ruth Jones, signed an agreement valued at nearly £8 million ($10.8 million), moving their work away from the BBC to Apple’s global audience.
The original series, which wrapped up in December 2024, left fans wondering what would come next. Now, Apple is betting big on its ability to deliver a spiritual successor that resonates with both British and international viewers.

The Deal Behind the Move
Apple reportedly outbid rivals including Netflix, Amazon Prime, and the BBC to secure the new show. Corden’s existing relationship with Apple, through his Carpool Karaoke series, played a key role in helping the company close the deal.
The production will consist of 10 episodes filmed in the UK. Casting has yet to be announced, but sources suggest the show will feature an all-British cast, continuing the tradition of its predecessor.
Not Gavin and Stacey, But Familiar
While connected to the original series, this project won’t reuse the same characters. Instead, it aims to stand alone, appealing to audiences unfamiliar with Gavin and Stacey. This creative direction reflects Apple’s goal of making the series accessible to a broader, global fan base.
Corden and Jones, who played the much-loved “Smithy” and “Nessa,” may or may not reprise their roles. In the BBC finale, their characters married, but Apple’s series will explore new territory rather than continue the same storyline.
Apple’s Expanding TV Strategy
This move highlights Apple TV+’s strategy of investing in original British content with international appeal. By securing established talent and beloved storytelling, Apple strengthens its position in the increasingly competitive streaming market.
For fans of Gavin and Stacey, the announcement marks a fresh chance to reconnect with the humor and heart that defined the show—this time, with Apple at the helm.
