Apple plans to bring its Apple Intelligence system to mainland China before the end of 2025. The launch is expected alongside the iOS 26.1 or 26.2 updates, giving Chinese iPhone users access to Apple’s latest AI features.
China requires foreign tech companies to partner with local firms. To meet this condition, Apple has teamed up with Baidu and Alibaba. Baidu will handle the AI functions, similar to ChatGPT in other regions, while Alibaba will manage compliance with government rules.

Navigating Regulation and Market Needs
Apple sees Apple Intelligence as critical to the success of the upcoming iPhone 17. To speed up the rollout, the company is already testing the system with its employees in China.
The path has not been easy. U.S. officials have voiced concerns about the partnership and the restrictions that come with it. Still, Apple wants to secure China as a major market and is adjusting to local demands.
What Users Can Expect
Currently, Apple Intelligence is blocked for users with Chinese Apple accounts, even if they own devices bought overseas. A simplified Chinese version appeared in April 2024 but was limited to users outside the country.
Once approved, the service could help Apple boost iPhone sales in China, where competition remains intense. The release will give Chinese users access to Apple’s AI, though under stricter controls than in other regions.
