Apple has confirmed that its new Live Translation feature will not be limited to the latest AirPods Pro 3. AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 will also receive the upgrade, thanks to their H2 chip and support from Apple Intelligence.
How It Works
Live Translation activates when users pinch both stems of their AirPods at the same time. Once enabled, it automatically translates spoken language into the chosen target language. Apple demonstrated the feature at its September event, showing how seamless conversations can be across language barriers.

Language Support
At launch, the feature will support a small set of languages, including:
- English (US, UK)
- French (France)
- Spanish (Spain)
- German
- Portuguese (Brazil)
However, Apple noted that some of these options will not be available in the EU at first.
Device Requirements
To use Live Translation, users need an iPhone 15 Pro or newer running iOS 26. AirPods Pro 3 ship with the feature already enabled. AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 will gain access through a software update that arrives alongside iOS 26 on September 15.
A Step Toward Smarter Audio
The addition of Live Translation highlights Apple’s push to blend artificial intelligence with its audio products. By offering the feature on more than just its newest earbuds, Apple ensures a wider base of customers can experience real-time translation.
