An upgraded Siri powered by Google’s Gemini might be on the cards, according to the noted Apple analyst Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. Major AI features which were unveiled by Apple in 2024 have been postponed multiple times, finally now to 2026. The company is working on identifying the next best path for its AI plans, if not ambitions.
The thing that continues to work for Apple is the sense of familiarity with iOS and its services which people have taken to across the globe. It is a tough aspect for any new-comer or rival to challenge, hence it is likely that the iPhone will continue to rule for at least the foreseeable future.

Siri continues to be subpar compared to the competition
In the past few years, Apple’s own Spotlight search feature has received features which enabled it to be more informative such as giving quick web search results, find locations, and many more. Also, Spotlight being very accessible with a shortcut is advantageous for Apple, however with the advent of AI-apps flooding the market, it is time for Apple to build its own AI or integrate third-party AI platforms.

It has been reported by multiple sources that Apple may be looking for partners that could power its AI offerings. The company continues to build its in-house AI models but will likely partner with market leaders for powering its flagship offerings such as Siri which continues to be subpar compared to its competitors such as ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, etc. The iPhone maker will likely continue to use its own models for tasks such as email writing, notes enhancements, etc.
According to Bloomberg’s Gurman, Apple and Google have been in discussions for a while and have reached an agreement to test Google’s AI models in Siri. Reportedly, if the testing yields fruits, Apple may extend the AI use-cases to Spotlight search, Safari browser, and many more.
