Apple Glass: First Model Won’t Include AR Display

Apple is preparing to enter the smart glasses market with a device expected to launch in 2027. However, this first-generation model will not include an augmented reality (AR) display. According to Bloomberg, the company plans to introduce a lighter, more practical version before adding advanced AR features later.

The first model will focus on core functions and seamless integration with Apple’s ecosystem. It’s designed to resemble the Apple Watch’s initial launch strategy—starting simple and expanding over time. This approach allows Apple to fine-tune the product’s performance, battery life, and user experience before introducing more complex technology.

AR Display Planned for Second Generation

Apple reportedly plans to include a built-in AR screen in the second-generation glasses, possibly embedded in one of the lenses. Although no specific date is confirmed, analysts believe this version will mark Apple’s true entry into AR wearables.

The first-generation glasses won’t be limited to basic features. They are rumored to include a custom Apple Silicon chip, based on the Apple Watch processor. This chip will power key functions such as making calls, using Siri, and taking photos, while reducing reliance on a connected iPhone.

Apple’s Strategic Competition with Meta

Apple’s gradual rollout comes as Meta continues to expand its wearable technology lineup. Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses have already gained popularity for combining fashion with AI-powered features. Apple aims to challenge Meta by focusing on design quality, privacy, and tighter integration with its ecosystem.

By launching a simplified version first, Apple can refine the technology and gather valuable feedback from users. This method mirrors the company’s long-term strategy with past products—prioritizing reliability and performance before delivering high-end innovation.
