Apple has upgraded the Vision Pro headset with its latest M5 chip, bringing faster performance, sharper visuals, and longer battery life. The move aligns with the new M5-powered MacBook Pro and iPad Pro, showing Apple’s push for consistent hardware performance across devices.

Bob Borchers, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, said the update “delivers faster performance, sharper details throughout the system, and even more battery life.” He added that it sets “a new standard for what’s possible in spatial computing.”

Dual Knit Band Adds Comfort

Apple also introduced a redesigned Dual Knit Band to make the headset more comfortable. The new band replaces the Solo Knit Band and helps distribute the headset’s weight more evenly, reducing strain during long use.

A similar strap was shown briefly during the 2023 WWDC presentation, but it never reached the market. The updated version now comes as standard, reflecting Apple’s focus on comfort and design improvements.

VisionOS 26 Expands Spatial Experience

The Vision Pro has been central to Apple’s vision for spatial computing since its reveal in 2023. With the new M5 chip and visionOS 26 update, users can enjoy richer 3D environments, dynamic spatial widgets, and smoother VR gaming.

While many expected an R2 chip, Apple confirmed the headset will continue using the R1 processor. The R1 manages input from 12 cameras, five sensors, and six microphones, ensuring accurate real-time interaction.

Price and Availability

Pre-orders for the M5 Vision Pro are now open. The headset will be available in stores from October 22, 2025, starting at $3,499. Apple Stores will also host in-person demos so customers can experience the performance boost firsthand.
