iPhone Air Preorders Sell Out in Minutes After Launch in China

Apple’s iPhone Air launch in China created a buying frenzy, with preorders disappearing within minutes. The surge came after months of delay caused by local regulatory issues.

The device launched in the U.S. in September 2025, but Apple postponed its Chinese debut because of its eSIM-only setup. Most phones in China still depend on physical SIM cards. Once Apple addressed the issue, the company began preorders on October 17. CEO Tim Cook also visited China to promote the launch and meet government officials.

Preorders Gone in Minutes

Reports from the South China Morning Post confirm that every iPhone Air color and configuration sold out minutes after preorders opened. Delivery dates that once showed October 22 quickly changed to one to two weeks later as stock ran out.

Chinese customers showed greater enthusiasm than U.S. buyers. During the American launch, the iPhone Air stayed available for days, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max drew the most demand.

Apple Regains Strength in a Key Market

Although Apple hasn’t shared exact numbers, the rapid sellout shows how strong its brand remains in China. Analysts credit the iPhone Air’s lightweight design, modern features, and tight integration with Apple’s ecosystem for driving demand.

Tim Cook’s visit also boosted Apple’s visibility. His meetings and social media engagement helped renew confidence in the brand. Major resellers like JD.com are expected to post record-breaking preorder results similar to those for the iPhone 17 Pro Max earlier this year.

A Promising Comeback

The iPhone Air’s instant sellout marks a major win for Apple in one of its most competitive markets. The success reinforces that design, reliability, and trust still matter more than flashy trends. Apple’s momentum in China is clearly back on track.
