Apple has released the fourth developer betas for iOS 26.1, macOS Tahoe 26.1, iPadOS 26.1, watchOS 26.1, tvOS 26.1, and visionOS 26.1. This rollout marks the next stage in testing Apple’s latest operating systems as developers explore the updates ahead of their public release.
The fourth builds arrived on October 20, following earlier releases on September 22, October 6, and October 13. However, this round came slightly later than usual, reportedly due to an Amazon Web Services outage that disrupted parts of the internet earlier that day.

New Enhancements and Features
The iOS 26.1 beta 4 focuses on refining Apple’s expanding AI ecosystem. Earlier versions added Apple Intelligence language support for Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Apple also introduced the Model Context Protocol (MCP)—a framework that allows AI tools to interact more effectively with on-device data through a unified interface.
Developers also noticed updates like Live Translation, enhanced security improvements, a wider Safari tab bar, and swiping gestures in Apple Music. In the third beta, Apple added a new Apple TV icon, early references to third-party AI integrations, and new wallpaper options.
Testing Guidelines and Public Beta
Apple reminds users that developer betas are meant for testing, not everyday use. Installing beta software on primary devices can risk data loss or system instability. Apple encourages developers to test using secondary hardware and maintain full backups.
For non-developers, Apple will soon release a public beta that includes features already tested and stabilized, making it safer for general users to explore the new software.
Looking Ahead
As Apple continues refining its ecosystem, the upcoming 26.1 updates promise smoother performance, improved AI integration, and broader cross-platform support. With each beta, Apple moves closer to finalizing one of its most ambitious OS updates yet.
