Apple may be readying a second-generation Developer Strap for the Vision Pro, according to updates spotted on the company’s Developer website. The strap, originally launched at $300, allows developers to connect the headset to a Mac via USB-C for data transfer and testing.

A new listing on the visionOS Resources page now states that the Developer Strap will be “available to order on October 22.” This notice appeared without any official announcement from Apple, suggesting a quiet release aligned with the recent M5 Vision Pro launch.

What Developers Can Expect

The first-generation Developer Strap replaced the right audio module of the Vision Pro to establish a wired USB-C connection. This setup enabled developers to transfer data securely between a Mac and the headset and view live video feeds through Reality Composer Pro.

However, despite the Vision Pro’s cutting-edge hardware, the strap itself only supported USB 2 speeds, limiting its bandwidth. The new version could address this shortfall, potentially introducing USB 3.2 Gen 2 or even Thunderbolt connectivity, offering faster performance and reduced latency.

Design and Compatibility

Apple has not shared design details, but the updated strap may feature a refreshed look that matches the M5 Vision Pro. Sources suggest it could remain compatible with the original Vision Pro model, allowing developers to upgrade without replacing their existing headset.

While Apple has not confirmed any specifications, the October 22 order date points to imminent availability. If true, this upgrade would be a welcome improvement for developers seeking faster and more stable wired workflows.

A Quiet but Significant Update

The move reflects Apple’s ongoing effort to refine its spatial computing ecosystem. With the M5 Vision Pro’s improved display and processing power, a higher-speed Developer Strap could unlock new possibilities for testing and real-time development within visionOS.
