Apple is making the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs available for free to all Apple TV subscribers, even those without the MLS Season Pass. The move aims to attract new fans and boost interest in the platform’s soccer streaming service.
The playoffs, kicking off October 22, feature key Wild Card matches between Chicago Fire FC and Orlando City in the Eastern Conference, and Portland Timbers versus Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference. Winners from these games will advance to the Best-of-Three rounds starting October 24, leading up to the MLS Cup final on December 6.

A Repeat of Last Year’s Strategy
This isn’t Apple’s first time opening access to MLS content. The company ran a similar promotion in 2024, which helped drive more subscriptions for the following season. The initiative is designed to re-engage viewers who may have skipped the Season Pass, while giving potential subscribers a preview of Apple’s soccer coverage.
Earlier in September, Apple dropped the MLS Season Pass price to $25 for subscribers and $29 for non-subscribers, a significant cut from the regular $79 and $99 seasonal rates. This pricing adjustment aligns with Apple’s strategy to make sports streaming more accessible and competitive in the market.
Broadcast Partnerships Continue
While Apple TV remains the main platform for MLS coverage, select playoff games will also air on Fox Sports in the U.S. and on TSN and RDS in Canada. These partnerships ensure that fans without Apple devices can still watch the matches on traditional channels.
This announcement follows Apple’s recent Formula 1 deal, where it secured exclusive U.S. broadcasting rights for the next five years. Together, these moves underline Apple’s commitment to strengthening its position in the global sports streaming market.
A Win for Soccer Fans
By offering free access to the MLS playoffs, Apple is betting on the power of live sports to draw more long-term subscribers. For fans, it’s a chance to enjoy high-stakes matches without any additional cost — a clear win for both viewers and the growing world of sports streaming.
