Apple has officially joined the advisory board for The Game Awards, one of the most prestigious annual events in the gaming industry. Often referred to as the Oscars of gaming, the event recognizes outstanding achievements in video games and interactive entertainment.

The announcement, recently confirmed on The Game Awards’ website, highlights Apple’s growing influence in the global gaming market. With the App Store serving as a major hub for mobile gaming, Apple’s inclusion alongside other gaming giants underscores its commitment to shaping the future of interactive entertainment.

A Seat Among Industry Leaders

Apple joins an impressive lineup of companies already on the advisory board, including Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Epic Games, Activision, Ubisoft, and Valve. While the advisory board provides guidance on advancing the mission of The Game Awards, it does not directly influence award nominations or winners.

Last year’s ceremony attracted a record-breaking 154 million livestreams, emphasizing its global reach. The 2025 edition is set to take place on December 11 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California, promising another milestone event for the gaming world.

Apple’s Growing Role in Gaming

Apple’s participation in the board reflects its recent efforts to strengthen its gaming ecosystem. The company’s subscription service, Apple Arcade, continues to expand with exclusive titles, while initiatives like the Game Porting Toolkit make it easier for developers to bring major games to Mac and iPhone.

In May, Apple further demonstrated its dedication to gaming by acquiring RAC7, the developer behind Sneaky Sasquatch. The company’s hardware advancements, including Apple Silicon chips, have also made Macs more appealing for high-performance gaming.

Interestingly, The Game Awards 2024 spotlighted several games available through Apple’s platforms. The indie hit Balatro, featured on Apple Arcade, won multiple awards, including Best Independent Game.
