Apple has officially expanded its Self Service Repair program to include the entire iPhone 17 lineup, giving users more control over maintaining their devices. The update covers the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the new iPhone Air.
The program, first launched in April 2022, allows customers to access official repair manuals and purchase genuine Apple parts through the company’s Self Service Repair portal. Currently, the service is available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and several European countries.

How the Program Works
Customers can order replacement parts for batteries, cameras, microphones, and display glass directly from Apple’s online repair store. Apple also offers a seven-day tool rental option for $49, making it easier for users who do not wish to purchase specialized equipment.
After repairs, customers must return used or “core” parts to Apple for recycling and to receive credit toward the cost of new components. The store itself is operated by an Apple-authorized third party that handles parts distribution and logistics.
While the program provides transparency and access, experts note that the complexity of iPhone repairs and the high cost of components make it impractical for most users. Professional repairs often remain a more affordable and less risky option for those without technical experience.
A Step Toward Greater Repair Accessibility
Apple introduced the Self Service Repair initiative following mounting pressure from right-to-repair advocates, who criticized the company’s restrictive repair policies. The move marked a shift toward openness but did not fully satisfy critics, who argue the system remains expensive and overly complex for average consumers.
Even so, Apple’s continued expansion of the program signals a growing acknowledgment of user demand for repair freedom. As more devices become eligible, the company appears to be striking a balance between maintaining product quality and embracing repair transparency.
