Apple TV+ has dropped Long Island Compromise, an adaptation of Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s acclaimed novel, before production began. The move has surprised many in the industry, especially given the project’s strong creative foundation and early buzz.

The novel sparked a heated bidding war among studios before Eden Productions secured the rights. The company, led by Richard Plepler, was set to develop the show under his deal with Apple TV+. However, with Plepler’s five-year partnership nearing its end, Apple decided to withdraw its involvement.

Series Now Seeking a New Home

Reports from Variety confirm that Apple never issued a formal series order, leaving the project in its early stages of development. Now, the creative team is shopping the series to other streaming platforms in hopes of keeping the project alive.

Brodesser-Akner, who planned to write and executive produce the show, continues to build her screenwriting portfolio. Her previous adaptation, Fleishman Is in Trouble, became a Hulu hit and earned her an Emmy nomination in 2022. The success of that project had fueled high expectations for Long Island Compromise.

A Story with Lasting Emotional Impact

Long Island Compromise tells the story of a wealthy businessman kidnapped four decades ago and the ripple effects of that trauma on his family. The narrative dives into themes of privilege, loss, and generational consequences — hallmarks of Brodesser-Akner’s writing.

The industry’s reaction has been one of disappointment and surprise. Many expected Apple to push forward with the show, given its history of investing in prestige television. Despite Apple’s decision, insiders remain optimistic that another network will pick up the project.

Apple and Brodesser-Akner have not commented publicly on the decision. Still, with its compelling story and acclaimed author, Long Island Compromise appears far from finished — it’s simply waiting for a new stage to tell its story.
