Apple Ends 2025 Without New Macs, Faces Slower Start in 2026

Apple has finished 2025 without adding any new Macs to its lineup. The only release this year was the MacBook Pro with the M5 chip, marking a quieter period after the busy 2024 cycle that introduced multiple M4-powered devices.

During Apple’s latest earnings call, Senior Vice President Kevan Parekh confirmed that the company expects a slower start to 2026. He explained that the strong performance in late 2024, when most Mac models were refreshed, created tough year-over-year comparisons for early 2026.

Why the Slowdown Matters

Apple’s fiscal Q1 2026 may show lower Mac revenue compared to the same period last year. The company refreshed nearly all its major models ahead of the 2024 holiday season, driving exceptional sales then but leaving little room for new releases this year.

However, Parekh said that new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are coming soon, powering updated MacBook Pro configurations in early 2026. A new MacBook Air with the M5 chip is also expected later in the year. These launches should help sales rebound by mid-2026, as customers upgrade to faster and more efficient systems.

Apple’s Strategy Moving Forward

Unlike iPhones, Macs do not follow a strict yearly refresh cycle. Instead, Apple spaces out upgrades to balance production, demand, and innovation. This approach can cause uneven quarterly results but ensures each release feels more significant.

Apple’s focus remains on building momentum through its custom silicon. The M5 lineup will likely continue that trend by offering better performance and efficiency. Although 2025 closes quietly, Apple is clearly setting up 2026 for a comeback in its Mac segment.
