HomePod Mini Sparks New ‘Discontinued’ Rumors

The HomePod mini is once again listed as “out of stock” or “discontinued” at several online retailers, reviving rumors that Apple may soon launch a new version. However, similar shortages earlier in 2025 turned out to be temporary, leaving many questioning whether an update is truly imminent.

Introduced in 2020, the HomePod mini quickly became Apple’s compact and affordable alternative to the full-size HomePod. Despite its popularity, it hasn’t received a hardware refresh—only color updates—since its release.

Mixed Stock Signals Across Retailers

Recent checks reveal inconsistent availability. B&H Photo has marked the product as “discontinued,” while Best Buy, Target, and Verizon show certain colors, such as Midnight, unavailable for shipping. Staples lists the device as out of stock entirely, and Adorama labels it as backordered. Meanwhile, Walmart only carries units through third-party resellers.

Despite these listings, Apple’s own online store continues to sell the HomePod mini in multiple colors with no reported shipping delays. The discrepancy suggests that supply limitations could be retail-specific rather than a sign of discontinuation.

This isn’t the first time such confusion has occurred. Similar “out of stock” cycles were seen in January and April 2025, both of which ended without a new model announcement.

Could a HomePod Mini 2 Be Coming?

While there’s no official confirmation from Apple, industry watchers believe an upgraded HomePod mini 2 remains possible. Many expect Apple to eventually replace the S5 chip—the same processor found in the Apple Watch Series 5—with a more efficient model for better performance and sound quality.

Still, experts caution against jumping to conclusions. Retailer stock changes often result from restocking patterns or seasonal adjustments, not necessarily new product launches.

Waiting for Apple’s Next Move

Until Apple comments or hosts a new product event, the HomePod mini remains officially available. For now, buyers can still find it directly from Apple, but the growing number of “discontinued” labels suggests the company may be preparing for a transition soon.
