Apple is giving fans of its new sci-fi drama Pluribus a creative bonus. Viewers can now read an in-universe chapter from Bloodsong of Wycaro, the fictional romance novel featured in the show’s early episodes. The excerpt is available as a free download in Apple Books.

The release adds a playful twist to the show’s rollout. Apple launched the first two episodes of Pluribus on November 7, followed by the third episode this week. The series marks the latest project from Vince Gilligan, who is shifting from crime drama to near-future science fiction.

A Novel From the Show Steps Into Reality

In the series, the book comes from the pen of Carol Sturka, played by Rhea Seehorn. Sturka is one of the few survivors of a worldwide viral disaster and writes fantasy romance novels to stay afloat. The excerpt reflects her dry humor, mixing heartfelt emotion with quiet embarrassment.

The chapter focuses on Lucasia, a heroine sailing aboard the Mercator as she longs for her missing love, Raban. It offers a glimpse into the fictional world without revealing key plot points from the show. Because of that balance, the excerpt expands the story while keeping the main mystery intact.

A Strategy That Builds Deeper Worlds

Apple has experimented with this style of “world-expanding” media before. Severance included its own in-universe book, and Pluribus continues that trend. These extras help Apple TV shows stand out by giving dedicated viewers more to explore.

The company also uses Apple Books and in-app promotions to support major releases. This free chapter fits neatly into that strategy. It strengthens the show’s tone, highlights character quirks, and encourages fans to stay engaged between weekly episodes.

More Pluribus Arrives Each Week

New episodes of Pluribus continue to arrive weekly on Apple TV, while the Bloodsong of Wycaro excerpt remains available through Apple Books. As Apple leans further into cross-media storytelling, viewers can expect even more creative tie-ins that deepen the worlds behind its original series.
