Apple’s Car Key feature may soon arrive in select Cadillac vehicles, marking another step in the company’s growing push into digital car access. Newly discovered backend code suggests that Cadillac will join the list of supported brands in a future Apple Wallet update.

Car Key first launched in 2020, offering iPhone and Apple Watch users the ability to unlock, lock, and start compatible vehicles without carrying a physical key. Since then, more than 30 manufacturers have added support, and Apple confirmed at WWDC 2025 that 13 more brands would follow. Cadillac now appears to be among them, although details about specific models remain unclear.

Code Hints at Cadillac Integration

According to the internal code referenced in the document, Apple has added Cadillac, GM, Voyah, and Smart to its Car Key compatibility list. This backend addition strongly indicates that Apple is preparing for the feature’s rollout across at least some Cadillac models.

This development is notable because GM previously moved away from supporting Apple CarPlay in future electric vehicles. Despite that shift, Apple appears to be expanding Car Key access to at least part of GM’s lineup.

How Car Key Works for Drivers

Car Key uses NFC technology to authenticate a user’s iPhone or Apple Watch. Drivers can unlock their vehicle by holding their device near the door or, in some cases, standing close enough for passive entry. Starting the vehicle requires tapping the device near an internal NFC reader. The key stays securely stored in Apple Wallet, giving users a seamless and secure way to access their cars without carrying a physical fob.

What Comes Next

Although Apple has not officially announced Cadillac compatibility, the backend updates point to an upcoming release. Once available, the feature will offer Cadillac owners a modern alternative to traditional car keys and deepen Apple’s footprint in the automotive space.

As Apple continues expanding Car Key support across global brands, more drivers may soon rely on their iPhones as their primary car key—Cadillac owners likely among them.
