Two more U.S. states are preparing to bring digital driver’s licenses to Apple Wallet, marking another step toward mobile-based identification. According to recent updates from state websites, both Arkansas and Virginia have signed agreements to support digital IDs through Apple Wallet “in the future.”
While both states already offer digital licenses in separate apps, the upcoming Wallet support will make access far easier. Drivers will be able to view their ID on their iPhone or Apple Watch, which removes the need to open a dedicated app. As a result, residents will gain a faster and more consistent way to use digital identification at airports, stores, and state agencies.

However, neither state has released a clear rollout date yet. Officials simply confirm that support is coming.
More States Are Already Online
Across the U.S., interest in digital IDs continues to grow. Currently, 14 states and territories already support storing a driver’s license in Apple Wallet. These include Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, West Virginia, and Puerto Rico.
The list is expanding quickly. With Arkansas and Virginia added, seven more states are confirmed to be working toward Apple Wallet support:
Connecticut, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Utah, Arkansas, and Virginia.
This momentum shows how digital identification is becoming a national trend, even though each state controls its own timeline.
Devices That Support Digital IDs
To use a digital driver’s license in Apple Wallet, residents will need an iPhone 8 or newer running iOS 16.5 or later. The feature also works on an Apple Watch Series 4 or later running watchOS 9.5.
These requirements help ensure security, since the feature relies on hardware-level encryption and biometric authentication.
A Growing Shift Toward Mobile Wallet Identification
As more states move forward, digital IDs are becoming a normal part of mobile life. Although Arkansas and Virginia have not set launch dates, their decision to join the program signals wider nationwide adoption. With more states preparing to follow, Apple Wallet may soon become one of the most common ways Americans carry their identification.
