iPhone 15 Pro users now have a quicker way to talk to ChatGPT, thanks to a simple Action button shortcut. Apple still keeps Siri locked to the Side button, but the Action button gives users room to customize how they interact with their devices. With a few steps, anyone can assign ChatGPT’s voice mode to the button and start a conversation instantly.
The setup is easy. First, users install the ChatGPT app and sign in. Then, they open the Settings app, tap Action Button, and browse to the Controls section. After searching for “ChatGPT,” they select Open ChatGPT Voice. From that point on, a long press on the Action button activates ChatGPT’s voice mode without needing to unlock the phone or open the app manually.
Smarter Voice Conversations
A recent update to the ChatGPT app improves how voice chats work. Instead of sending users to a separate screen, voice conversations now appear in the same chat window as typed messages. This makes switching between speaking and typing feel smooth and natural. Additionally, ChatGPT responds in real time, showing text on-screen as it speaks. The change keeps the full context of each conversation intact, which helps the assistant provide better answers.
When users activate voice mode for the first time, the app asks for microphone access. Once granted, they can start speaking right away.
Keep the Conversation Going
ChatGPT doesn’t stop listening if users leave the app. Instead, the session continues in the Dynamic Island. This allows them to switch apps while ChatGPT prepares or delivers a response. To return and end the session, they simply tap the Dynamic Island and press End.
However, ChatGPT can’t completely replace Siri. While it excels in conversation and problem-solving, it cannot perform system-level actions like setting alarms or checking calendars.

Although Apple restricts Siri to the Side button, adding ChatGPT to the Action button gives users a fast and flexible alternative. With hands-free access, real-time responses, and seamless voice interactions, ChatGPT turns the Action button into a more capable shortcut than ever before.
