Apple has kicked off its annual New Year sale in Japan, continuing a popular local tradition. From January 2 to January 5, customers can receive free Apple Gift Cards with qualifying purchases. In addition, iPhone buyers can secure a limited-edition AirTag designed just for the occasion.

This seasonal promotion mirrors similar campaigns by other major retailers in Japan. However, Apple’s version stands out due to its exclusive items and strong focus on premium devices.

Limited-Edition AirTag Adds Cultural Touch

One highlight of the sale is the special AirTag available to select iPhone buyers. The accessory features a Daruma engraving, a well-known Japanese symbol of luck and perseverance. Apple will release only 65,000 of these engraved AirTags during the sale, making them a sought-after collectible.

However, not all customers qualify. Only buyers of the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, or iPhone 16e receive the AirTag. These customers also receive an Apple Gift Card worth 12,000 yen.

Gift Cards Scale With Product Choice

Beyond iPhones, Apple Japan offers gift cards across many product categories. The value depends on what shoppers buy. For example, Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch SE 3, and select accessories include an 8,000 yen gift card. Meanwhile, AirPods Max, AirPods Pro 3, and AirPods 4 come with cards valued up to 12,000 yen.

Tablet buyers also benefit. iPads, including the iPad Pro and iPad mini, qualify for gift cards worth up to 15,000 yen. On the higher end, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, and Mac mini buyers can receive cards valued up to 38,000 yen, or about $250.

Strong Incentives Drive Early-Year Demand

Overall, Apple’s New Year sale blends cultural flair with financial incentives. By pairing limited-edition accessories with generous gift cards, Apple encourages early-year spending while rewarding loyal customers. As the sale runs for just four days, shoppers interested in exclusive AirTags or high-value gift cards will need to act quickly.
