M5 Max MacBook Pro Benchmarks Rival Mac Studio Performance

Apple’s newest M5 Max chip is already drawing attention after early benchmark results appeared online. The processor powers the latest MacBook Pro models, and initial tests suggest it delivers performance that rivals Apple’s high-end desktop chips.

The results surfaced in the public Geekbench database as reviewers began testing the newly announced laptops. These early benchmarks offer a first look at how Apple’s newest silicon performs in real-world scenarios.

Although benchmark data can vary, the results show that Apple’s newest chip continues the company’s trend of strong performance improvements.

Benchmark Scores Show Major CPU Gains

One benchmark entry likely represents a 16-inch MacBook Pro equipped with the M5 Max chip. The device reportedly includes an 18-core CPU and 128GB of memory.

According to the results, the M5 Max achieved a single-core Geekbench score of 4,268 and a multi-core score of 29,233.

These numbers place the laptop ahead of Apple’s M3 Ultra chip in single-core performance. In comparison, the Mac Studio with the M3 Ultra recorded a single-core score of 3,261 and a multi-core score of 28,161.

The results highlight how Apple continues to improve chip efficiency and speed across generations.

GPU Performance Remains Competitive

In addition to CPU tests, Geekbench also measured graphics performance using the Metal benchmark. The M5 Max scored 232,718, which comes close to the Mac Studio’s 243,531 GPU score.

While the desktop system still holds a slight advantage in graphics performance, the results remain impressive for a laptop. This suggests the M5 Max can handle demanding tasks such as video editing, 3D rendering, and professional design work.

However, experts caution that benchmark scores do not always reflect real-world performance. Factors such as thermal conditions, workloads, and software optimization can influence final results.

Apple Continues Its Silicon Momentum

Apple introduced the M5 Max as part of its newest MacBook Pro lineup. The chip targets professionals who require high performance for intensive applications.

High-end configurations of the MacBook Pro can reach $7,349, showing that the device targets creative professionals and advanced users.

Pre-orders for the new MacBook Pro models will begin shipping on March 11, meaning more detailed testing will appear soon.

As more benchmarks surface, Apple’s latest processor will likely receive deeper analysis. Still, early results suggest the M5 Max may become one of the most powerful laptop chips available today.
