Apple may introduce updates to its desktop Mac lineup later in 2026, including a refreshed Mac mini with the M5 chip and new color options for the 24-inch iMac. Reports suggest the releases could arrive during Apple’s traditional September to October product season.

The company recently refreshed much of its MacBook lineup with newer processors. Now attention appears to be shifting toward desktop computers. However, these updates may take longer to reach customers compared with recent laptop launches.

Mac Studio Expected First

Before the Mac mini and iMac updates appear, Apple will likely update the Mac Studio desktop workstation. Analysts expect that refresh to arrive around the middle of 2026, possibly during the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference.

Because the Mac Studio targets professional users, Apple may prioritize it in the update cycle. Afterward, Apple will likely focus on the more consumer-friendly models such as the Mac mini and the colorful iMac.

Mac Mini May Gain M5 and M5 Pro Chips

The upcoming Mac mini update is expected to focus mainly on internal improvements. Early information suggests the new model will look almost identical to the current version. Instead of redesigning the device, Apple will likely introduce M5 and M5 Pro processors to improve performance.

This approach follows Apple’s usual strategy for smaller desktop upgrades. The company often updates the processor while leaving the overall design unchanged.

For users, this means faster speeds without learning a new form factor or setup.

New Colors Could Refresh the iMac

The 24-inch iMac may receive a more noticeable change. Reports suggest Apple plans to introduce a refreshed color lineup for the all-in-one desktop. While the exact shades remain unknown, Apple may expand or update the current palette.

The existing iMac already offers seven colors, including blue, purple, pink, orange, yellow, green, and silver. A new color range could help the product stand out while keeping its recognizable design.

Apple’s Strategy for Desktop Macs

Apple appears to be staggering its desktop updates rather than releasing everything at once. First, the company may update the high-end Mac Studio. Then, it will likely refresh the Mac mini and iMac later in the year.

If the rumors prove correct, Apple’s desktop lineup could receive several upgrades throughout 2026, giving both professional users and everyday consumers new hardware options.
