Apple could take a new approach to wearable health technology with the upcoming Apple Watch Series 12. According to a recent leak, the company may place a new health sensor inside the watch’s silicone band rather than inside the watch itself.

The claim comes from leaker Kosutami, who said the sensor would be molded into Apple’s fluoroelastomer band. However, the report did not reveal what the sensor would measure.

If the information proves accurate, it would mark one of the biggest design changes in the Apple Watch’s health system in recent years.

A New Way to Collect Health Data

Apple already offers several health features on its smartwatch, including heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, sleep analysis, and ECG readings. Therefore, moving some sensors into the band could give the company more room to develop additional wellness tools.

Industry reports have previously suggested that Apple has explored several types of external sensors. These include technology that could monitor hydration levels or track muscle movement. The new band could potentially support one of these features.

The rumor also raises questions about availability. The sensor reportedly works only with the silicone band, which could mean users would need a specific accessory to access the feature.

Blood Sugar Monitoring Still in Development

For years, Apple has reportedly worked on non-invasive blood glucose monitoring. However, there is no indication that this technology would appear in the new band. Instead, previous reports suggest Apple intends to integrate such a feature directly into the watch’s optical sensor system.

The company has not announced when blood sugar monitoring could become available.

Rumor Comes With Some Uncertainty

Kosutami has correctly predicted several Apple developments in the past. Still, the leaker has also made claims that never materialized, including an earlier prediction about changes to the Apple Watch band connector.

Interestingly, rumors about a redesigned connector have resurfaced recently. If Apple is indeed developing a sensor-equipped band, a new connection system could help support the additional technology.

For now, Apple remains silent. Yet if the report turns out to be true, the Apple Watch Series 12 could introduce a fresh chapter in wearable health monitoring and further strengthen Apple’s position in digital health innovation.
