Apple has confirmed that some of its newest Apple Home AI features will only be available with a 2TB iCloud+ subscription. The requirement appears in the macOS Golden Gate beta release notes following the announcements made at WWDC 2026.
The move gives existing premium subscribers access to the new features without an extra AI subscription. However, users on lower storage plans must upgrade if they want the full Apple Home AI experience.

The standalone 2TB iCloud+ plan costs $10 per month. Users can also access the features through the Apple One Premier bundle, which includes the same storage tier.
AI Focuses on Smarter Home Security
Apple has not listed every feature covered by the requirement. Still, current information suggests the restriction mainly applies to AI-powered HomeKit Secure Video analysis.
The system analyzes recorded footage locally. It identifies people, objects, and important events. Then, it organizes the results into easy-to-review video highlights.
The Apple Home app can also combine related clips into a single timeline. In addition, it can highlight priority events to help users find important moments more quickly. These tools make reviewing security footage much easier.
Some Features Stay Free
Not every Apple Home improvement requires the premium subscription. Apple indicates that notification grouping and 4K HomeKit Secure Video support remain available without the AI requirement. These features do not depend on Apple’s image analysis models.
Lower iCloud+ plans still support HomeKit Secure Video, but they include camera limits. The 200GB plan supports up to five cameras, while the 50GB plan supports only two. Users who need unlimited cameras must continue using the 2TB plan.
Apple’s AI Strategy Continues to Evolve
Apple has avoided introducing a separate subscription for Apple Intelligence. Instead, the company continues linking its most advanced AI capabilities to premium cloud services.
For now, Apple has not confirmed whether additional AI subscriptions will arrive in the future. Even so, the latest policy signals that advanced smart home features will play an important role in the company’s growing ecosystem. As Apple expands its AI platform, premium cloud services may become increasingly valuable for users who want access to every new capability.
