Apple may refresh every major iPad model over the next year, but customers will need to be patient. A new report suggests the company will introduce updated tablets in phases, beginning with the iPad mini in late 2026 and continuing through spring 2027. The lineup is expected to include new versions of the entry-level iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Pro.
The staggered release strategy could allow Apple to spread new technologies across its tablet range while maintaining clear differences between premium and budget models.
OLED Display Leads the Next Wave
The first major update is expected to arrive with the iPad mini. According to the report, Apple plans to equip the compact tablet with an OLED display before the end of 2026. If that happens, the iPad mini would become the first non-Pro iPad to adopt the advanced display technology.
Meanwhile, the entry-level iPad is unlikely to receive an OLED panel. Instead, Apple reportedly plans to focus on improving performance with a faster processor while keeping the overall design largely unchanged. This approach would help control manufacturing costs and preserve the device’s affordable price point.
Faster Chips and Smarter Features
One of the biggest reported changes involves the base iPad’s processor. The tablet is expected to move from the A16 chip to the A19, which would finally bring support for Apple Intelligence. Currently, the entry-level iPad is the only model in Apple’s tablet lineup that does not support the company’s AI-powered features.
The report also suggests that Apple will release updated iPad Air and iPad Pro models around spring 2027. However, neither device is expected to receive a major exterior redesign. Instead, Apple appears focused on internal improvements and gradual hardware upgrades. Separate rumors have also linked the next iPad Pro to a vapor chamber cooling system for better thermal performance.
More Changes Could Follow
Reports also indicate that Apple continues to expand OLED technology across its tablet lineup. A future iPad Air could adopt a lower-cost OLED display, with Samsung reportedly preparing screen production in late 2026 ahead of a possible launch in early 2027.
Apple has not confirmed any of these plans. Nevertheless, if the reported roadmap proves accurate, the company will deliver one of its broadest iPad refresh cycles in recent years, combining smarter processors, improved displays, and gradual hardware upgrades across the entire lineup.
