Apple TV is preparing to launch a new Australian thriller this September. Last Seen will premiere on September 9, with Patrick Brammall leading a mystery built around disappearance, grief and renewed hope.
The series follows police detective Ian Ridley, whose daughter Maggie disappeared 11 years earlier. Despite years without answers, Ridley has never escaped the mystery surrounding her disappearance.
However, an unexpected distress call changes everything.
A Phone Call Reopens an Old Mystery
A teenage girl contacts authorities in distress, and Ridley becomes convinced that she could be Maggie. As a result, he returns to a search that has haunted him for more than a decade.
The story draws inspiration from The Dispatcher, a novel by award-winning author Ryan David Jahn. The adaptation will open with two episodes on September 9. After that, Apple TV will release new episodes every Wednesday through October 7.
Meanwhile, the newly released two-minute trailer offers viewers an early look at the tense investigation and Ridley’s emotional struggle.
Patrick Brammall Leads the Cast
Brammall stars as Ridley and anchors an ensemble of Australian and international talent. The cast also includes Brendan Cowell, Daniel Henshall, Chloe Jean Lourdes, Zahra Newman, Maxine Peake and Jessica Wren.
The production also has strong Australian roots. Filmmakers shot the entire series in Victoria, giving the thriller a distinctly local setting.
In addition, Kris Mrksa adapted the novel and serves as an executive producer. Emmy-nominated filmmaker Christian Schwochow directed the series and also serves as an executive producer.
Another Mystery for Apple TV
Last Seen adds another suspense-driven drama to Apple TV’s expanding collection of thrillers. Yet its central mystery offers more than a conventional police investigation.
At its heart, the series follows a father confronting a painful possibility after 11 years of uncertainty. That emotional foundation could give the mystery extra weight as new clues emerge.
