Apple appears ready to keep the Ted Lasso momentum going. Production on the hit comedy’s fifth season could begin as early as January 2027, according to a new report.
The news follows a strong start for Season 4. Its premiere generated nearly 300 million U.S. viewing minutes during its first two days. Moreover, the launch became the biggest premiere in Apple TV’s history, according to the report.
Season 5 Production Could Start Soon
The report cites Sigmund Judge, who says production is provisionally scheduled to begin in January. Therefore, Apple may move into the next chapter with little delay after Season 4.
If production stays on schedule, viewers could potentially see Season 5 sometime in 2027. However, that timeline remains tentative because filming and post-production can face unexpected delays.
The rapid turnaround would underline Apple’s confidence in one of its most recognizable streaming properties. In addition, the record-setting Season 4 debut gives the company a strong reason to maintain the show’s momentum.
Ted Lasso Has Already Defied Its Original Ending
The series once appeared destined to finish after three seasons. However, Apple later secured its return following negotiations with Jason Sudeikis, who plays football coach Ted Lasso.
Since then, the show’s future has expanded considerably. Sudeikis recently expressed interest in seeing the series continue for two additional seasons. Meanwhile, Apple executive Eddy Cue also appears willing to keep the franchise running longer.
Apple strengthened that possibility in 2025 by signing the cast to three-year contracts. Consequently, the company has more flexibility to develop stories beyond the current season.
Apple TV Keeps a Major Franchise Moving
Ted Lasso has grown from a sports comedy into a flagship title for Apple’s streaming business. Its mix of humor, optimism, workplace tension, and personal relationships helped build a loyal global audience.
For now, Apple has not announced a Season 5 premiere date. Still, the provisional January production schedule suggests the next chapter may already be moving forward.
