Apple’s next entry-level iPad could receive one of its biggest internal upgrades in years. Newly discovered code points to faster hardware, Apple Intelligence support, and improved wireless connectivity.
The 12th-generation iPad would succeed the current iPad 11. More importantly, the upgrade could finally bring Apple’s AI features to its lowest-cost tablet.
A19 Chip Could Power the iPad 12
Details found in Apple’s code reportedly identify an A19 chip alongside 8GB of RAM. Together, those specifications would provide the hardware needed to run Apple Intelligence.
The A19 supports Apple’s AI platform, while 8GB meets its minimum memory requirement. Therefore, the new hardware could significantly expand the entry-level iPad’s capabilities.
Apple Intelligence support would also bring its related Siri features to the affordable tablet range. As a result, buyers may no longer need a more expensive iPad simply to access Apple’s latest AI tools.
However, Apple has not officially confirmed these specifications.
Wi-Fi 7 and Faster 5G Also Expected
The leaked code points to more than processing improvements. Apple could also give the iPad 12 a substantial connectivity upgrade.
A C1X modem reportedly appears in the code and would provide sub-6GHz 5G connectivity. Meanwhile, Apple’s N1 networking chip could add Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support.
Consequently, the next iPad could deliver faster wireless performance while improving connections with accessories and compatible smart devices.
These changes would make the entry-level model more modern without requiring Apple to reposition it as a premium tablet.
Spring 2027 Launch Rumored
Apple has not announced a launch date or price for the iPad 12. Still, current rumors suggest the company could introduce the tablet in spring 2027.
The report also expects Apple to keep the starting price near the current model’s $449.
An earlier rumor had pointed to an early 2026 release, but that timeframe passed without a launch.
For now, the leaked specifications suggest Apple may focus on internal upgrades. If accurate, the A19 chip and Apple Intelligence could make the iPad 12 a much more capable entry-level tablet.
