Using iPhoto to make a ‘Life Poster’
Mike Matas, one of the people behind the monstrously successful software
company Delicious Monster (I couldn’t resist), has posted
instructions on how to create what he
calls a ‘Life Poster’ using only your photos and iPhoto.
What is a ‘Life Poster’ you ask? It is basically a collage made up entirely of 98 of your best photos that you have
diligently been collecting in a massive iPhoto library. Mike does give you some advice on choosing what photos to use:
‘Try to pick photos with lots of different colors. If you pick all indoor florescent light photos your poster is going
to look like crap.’
Not a bad way to spend 20 to 30 minutes and $29, which is for the print from Kodak and express shipping. You can save
a few dollars by going with the regular shipping option, if you don’t need your Life Poster post haste.
Mike mentions that these make great gifts, though I would recommend not trying to woo someone by creating a Life
Poster consisting entirely of your head shot.

Cool idea. Thanks for the info.
I'm looking forward to the next tip -

I've been using MacOSaiX for a while now to make mosaic's of my photos and they make great gifts too. The only downside (for me at least) is that you need a ton of photos to make a good one (otherwise the base image doesn't really stand out well enough).

I just got back my iLife poster, and while I love the poster, somewhere something went wrong. I followed Mike's instructions to the "t", but the poster came out with:
1) seven photos across with each of the photos at each somewhat cut-off
2) there was a lot of white space at the top and bottom
And I triple-checked that I had the right, constrained size crop on each photo, 20" x 30" poster, seven across.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks so much. I love the concept of the poster, but it just didn't come out the way I had expected!
