iMac disassembled for your viewing pleasure
Continuing the tradition of taking things apart as
soon as they're released, a site by the name of KODAWARISAN has already dissected an Intel Dual Core iMac. The images aren't
incredibly hi-res, but they should be good enough to keep you from doing the same to your zippy new iMac.[via MacDailyNews]

Why are they taking it apart instead of trying to install Windows XP?

Because compared to windows XP, being torn open and having your insides oggled by thousands of people on the internet is a far lesser torture.
No Mac should be forced to run WinXP without rightful consent of both parties.... :P

Buy a Dell if you want to run Windows. They and gateway already have Core Duo laptops.

Kind of looks messy inside for a Mac. I older iMacs (without iSight) are very clean looking inside. Are these new ones user servicable or not? Like doing your own RAM upgrade.

My viewing pleasure? That thing is extremely ugly inside. Let's hope it's the quality of the old G5 innerds. Talk about beautiful CPU parts.

I hope that is a pre-production model. If you compare the pictures of the inside of this one with the 17" G5 on the same site, it's a complete mess. Apple has always put a lot of planning into its products both inside and out, I think this could be a change for the worse. It really looks like it has been assembled in a rush with little planning.

Does the fact that there's an "intel" (with the dropped 'e') mean that these were manufactured before Intel's name change?

You know you're an Apple nut when you think the inside of a computer should look nice.

You know what's confusing me? Why they've taken it apart from the front. I've not had a chance to take apart one of the new iMacs myself yet but I'm fairly sure they'd still have the removable back. I mean, why would Apple force you to remove the screen to change the hard drive.

Compared to the previous generation of iMacs this is awfully messy. For instance have a look at http://www.flickr.com/photos/aallan/sets/1481705/ for some shots I took when putting some 3rd party RAM into one of my current iMacs. What's going on here? This just doesn't look like Apple kit...

I don't understand why folks (here and at the macrumors forums) are all uptight about how this looks on the inside!?
How often are you going to open your iMac? The memory slot is accessible from the bottom. Yeah, maybe you'll need to upgrade the HD eventually. Not like you can upgrade the video card or anything.
I don't understand those who are judging the iMac based on what they think the inside looks like?? Do you open up your PowerBook and exclaim about it's compact design??
99% of folks care more about a slim enclosure with maximum performance - than whether in inside looks "pretty".
The Rev A&B iMacs were slim, and "prettier" inside to some. To add memory you had to pop it open.
The Rev C iMac G5 has this same layout internally, so this change did not coincide with the Intel addition. With the new low-power G5 (2.1/1.9 Ghz) in the Rev C, Apple was able to slim the enclosure, quiet the fans, and added access to the memory from the bottom - so that even your grandma can add memory to her machine.
Actually, if you look at it from an engineering standpoint... the insides of the Rev C iMac G5 and Intel iMac are absolutely amazing.
The iMac is actually more of a laptop in a vertical case anyway, so don't expect it to be a PowerMac. If you want "tweakablity" - you have to should be buying a PowerMac (or what ever the Power-less PowerMac will be named).
They come with the clear plastic panel inside too, so you can run your machine with the inside exposed.
Agreed - changing a hard drive will be a task, but it ALWAYS has been with iMacs going back to the 233Mhz model. Fear not - Apple will document how to open the case, as they have with all the past models. This is the consumer machine - and most consumers aren't going to be changing their own hard drives.
Think more:
iMac = MacBook Pro, with the advantage of full time power
(They were released at the same time, very similar specs, same memory SO-DIMMS. SO-DIMMs in a desktop?? it's a laptop!)

Guys, The imac g5 with isight looks identical inside, except for the logicboard, and even then... ITS IDENTICAL so only the first and second gen imacs were beautiful inside because they were user serviceable. Think of these like laptops, no one sees the inside, so who cares what i looks like, hell you cant even open this new imac and the imac g5 w/ isight with out special tools anyways.

the MAC users are customary to the beauty as much inside as outside the machines

The more I look at these pictures the more I think about the possibility of the CPU with upgradable. Does anyone else see what I see? Does anyone else think what I'm thinking?
