TUAW Video Podcast: iMac Core Duo, Part 1
That's right! It's here: the first part of my video podcast report on the new iMac Core Duo. What's
amazing about this video podcast is that you don't actually see the iMac at all (except for the remote). Instead, I
recorded the entire thing with me yammering on about the iMac with the iMac itself. I used the built-in iSight and
iMovie HD to record my ramblings and it worked quite nicely. My only complaint has to do with the lighting in my
apartment, and the way the iSight, unlike the normal 10lbs added by TV cameras, actually adds on about 35lbs... All
right. Who am I kidding? I'm fat. And also something weird was going on with my hair. Here's a direct link to the file [16.2MBs; Control Click and Save the 3:37 video], which you should also find enclosed in our feed and available via the iTMS. If the file comes down as a text file, just remove the .txt extension from the end and it will work like a charm. MIME types confuse the Internets at times.
Check back tomorrow for an actual video of the iMac, complete with it booting by itself, booting next to my wife's 12-inch Powerbook, and launching different programs. Does the excitement ever stop? Does it?!

Actually, you look like you're losing weight (based solely on some flickr photos that I vaguely remember).
It's funnier to me, that you're watching figure skating. *ducks*
Oh, and I know it's tough to gauge with an iSight built in to the screen, but, remember the everpresent rule of thirds. Divide the screen into thirds, and place your eyeline on the upper third. Lower third for the eyeline is generally reserved for when really really cool things are important in the sky or background, so for people, stick with the upper third. The Rule of Thirds applies horizontally as well. If you can put the main focus of the shot at one of the intersections of these imaginary lines, you've got it. Production values of your video podcasts will increase tremendously. Use tape or something temporary to mark your television with these lines and watch about thirty minutes of tv and enjoy the epiphany. ;)

1. ugh mono no good...
2. no one seems to be discussing the business downfalls of the macbook pro... many companies have camera free workplace policies... i was in the market for a new laptop, but will not be getting the new MBP due to the isight included, wish they had a camera-less option (like treo)

Nice :)
You should be able to stop the 'downloading the file as a .txt file' problem by going to your web host control panel, MIME types section & adding the .m4v mime type.
I had a similar problem with .sitx files, added it in CP & now they download fine :)

About the mime type thingie:
Just add a .htaccess file with the following line to the folder that contains the .m4v:
AddType video/mp4 .m4v
Or put that line in your general httpd.conf (mac) or apache.conf (*nix) alongside the other AddType lines
