TUAW Podcast #11

It is time once again boys and girls for the TUAW Podcast. On this latest episode #11, Laurie A. Duncan and I got down to business discussing Apple's recent stock options investigation results, Steve's confirmed keynote for Macworld 07 as well as the event's doubled size, the upcoming new .Mac webmail and whether it's important, the growing passion for RSS readers and what I like to call Adobe's Universal Blunder™.

The podcast (or for all y'all Leo supporters out there: netcast) in MP3 format (I know: we're working on support for an enhanced version) weighs in at just under 35MB and 38:08, and it's available from our TUAW podcast feed in the iTS, or right here. Enjoy.

Update: we also have a dedicated podcast RSS feed for the non-iTS users out there: http://podcasts.tuaw.com/rss.xml.

I'm open to suggestions for another mic if mine is a problem - I've been using the Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 and i've always been very pleased (as have the people on the other end of the line) with the sound quality over Skype and iChat A/V. But it's hard to tell listening to the 'cast if the issue is my mic or just the compression/editing process since I wasn't recording on my end (strange audio hijack malfunction that i got tired of wasting time on)... David was recording both sides on his end, leaving me no way to compare the versions.

A Samson USB microphone (C03U) will do just fine for around seventy dollars.

Laurie - I cleaned all that out, including a lot of our 'um's' and whatnot. I'm not an audio editing guru (yet), but I do have *some* chops. :)

Jordan - my "radio voice" is quite Kathleen Turner-ish, so i'm not offended if you thought it was a man :) But, in my own defense - and this is going to sound lame because for the last TUAW podcast I got talked into a year ago I had the same unfortunate, but true, excuse - I have been battling a nasty cold that is still taking up residence in my chest so my throat and voice have been even raspier than usual. If you manage to listen to whole thing you'll even hear me coughing and clearing my throat quite a bit, although I tried to mute my mic whenever possible!

Yea we're for sure working on the quality issue for our next editions guys. Sorry. I have an internship at a pro audio shop (for web and video work) and I'm going to start getting some pointers on quality, recording, practices, etc.

If you're interested though, I might be able to convince the higher-ups to make us a donations page so we can maybe afford those $2K mics Leo and gang use on TWiT.

:)

I second the notion for better quality, although its for a completely different reason: I missed the names during the intro, and went on thinking the entire podcast was being hosted by 2 guys. Laurie A. Duncan is obviously not a man. My apologies on this one.

Holy s***. My macbook requires better sound quality than this.
