Talkiphone posts iPhone FAQ
TalkiPhone has posted their 101-question-long iPhone FAQ. The FAQ, which runs the gamut from "Are AT&T stores really going to open at 6PM on June 29th" to "Will the iPhone support Adobe PDF documents?" collects information from around the Internet and combines it into a single easy-to-search document. The FAQ is clearly a work in progress and some of their answers differ from what I have been led to understand, so take the information there with a wee grain of salt. You can always review our iPhone posts for more tidbits on the greatest gadget since the sliced-bread slicer.
Thanks Chris

Answer: Currently it is not known whether the iPhone does have a SIM card slot or not. It has been missing from earlier pre-production models. It is being speculated that lack of access to the SIM will help Apple prevent the iPhone 'black market' to develop.
Wrong. The sim is accessible via sim tray on the top of the phone. Steve even says so in his keynote. If you visit the apple iPhone page and watch the iPhone introduction, via quick time, at 12:52 Jobs is showing the controls on the phone and gets to the top. He points out the headphone jack, and then says " we've got a place, a tray, for your sim card"
I have no idea how this inaccessible sim card rumor got started, but it's completely untrue, and driving me crazy.

The iPhone indeed supports PDF - I heard it when the "Product Manager" of the iPhone was talking about it during the WWDC Keynote. Listen carefully - he said it can open all types of documents...

June 13 2007 at 7:49 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis guy's FAQ is OK, with the exception of phrasing his answers seeming to be "the final word". Hopefully people dont take it as such.
A few things I noticed:
* he didnt know if there was a vibrate feature, and I belive that this feature is confirmed.
* PDFs are supported, I havent seen this anywhere.
* 2 year contract required- obviously not neccisarily true
* Overseas use- he is half right. Since the iPhone has a subsidy lock, people can only use cingular service overseas (preferred roaming partners, and roaming rates). You cant swap for a prepaid sim since its locked.
It woudlve been nice if he linked to his sources on his answers.
Nowhere, including in this FAQ, have I read specifically what the storage medium is. A friend insists it's a hard drive (like the iPod mini, I guess). That seems unlikely to me since 4GB and 8GB iPod nano uses NAND flash memory. So, what is it?
