The Big Zapruder #2: Placing Basic Calls
Gallery: The Big Zapruder #2
Some more surprises in this our second installment of analyzing the iPhone Guided Tour. Here's what we discovered and confirmed.
The Alphabet control. In addition to selecting a letter by pressing it, you can scroll your finger down the alphabet list to select the letter you want to choose.
Options during a call. You can tap home to access other iPhone applications during the call itself. Click on the green bar at the top to return to the call interface.Editing favorites. In Favorites, click Edit and then either drag a name (from the right side) to reorder or click - (it flips to a | instead) and then click remove to the right of the name. Click Done to return from edit mode.
Blue arrows. Tap them to view contact information for any name.
Missed calls display in red. Tap "missed" to only show misssed calls.

I love TUAW don't get me wrong but, I've had it up to HERE with the endless iPhone crap. I, like a lot of others "left out" of the iPhone carrier business could care less. I can't get it. Sure, it's nice and I'd be interested.....to some degree....but, this parade of articles heralding the iPhone as some sort of End-All Gadget Savior is getting to be a bit much. I mean....I GET IT! IT can play videos and you can talk to people with it.
I for one will be glad when it finally comes out and we can move on. Hopefully, Apple is waiting to unleash the new iMacs and other goodies after the iPhone World Event. Arrrgggghhh, enough! Let's move on already.

another update on the at&t realm of things. they seem to be updating their network as my phone that is soon to be replaces with the iPhone now says at&t instead of cingular on the network name.

Why not combine the two posts into one?

has anyone seen or heard about a vibrate-ringer? its great that we can mute the whole thing, but vibrate is a huge feature on almost all phones, could they have left it off?

Still no visuals of the calendar app. That makes me nervous since I use the calendar on my Blackberry all the time. I wonder what's so underwhelming (or buggy) about it that they won't show it.

A) It made me LOL at the end when he gestures "incredible power!
B) Looks like he borrowed one of Steve's mock turtlenecks...
C) The comment about it always being 9:42 reminded me of the crop circle from 'Waiting for Guffman.'

Why does it have to be so stinkin' proprietary? I'm not switching from Verizon for a variety of reasons, but I know for a fact that I'd get an iPhone if they offered it through Verizon. Loosen up a bit there, Steve!

bigjeff, watch the 20 minute video, towards the end when he talks about settings, airplane mode, and whatnot. You can clearly see a section for 'vibrate' on the settings screen.

@Vince:
The phone is just as proprietary as Verizon's network. Certainly, there are unique features the iPhone is employing under AT&T, but by using CDMA, Verizon itself is actually the proprietary technology.
