Apple paranoia in action

I'm doing screenshots today and I snap a photo of the iPhone video application. Notice anything missing? Like the actual video? What kind of paranoia prevents a screenshots application from photographing video on a platform that shouldn't be doing snapshots in the first place because it's not set up for third party interaction?

Thank you Apple.

p.s. I know. I know. It's probably just hardware acceleration.

"I know. I know. It's probably just hardware acceleration."

Of course, but why miss a chance to take a cheap poke at Apple, while also drawing additional hits from boys MacMacs and haters? Sheer brilliance!

Or, perhaps, just another annoying bit of garbage in my RSS feeds. Thanks, Erica.

As it probably doesn't run the whole os on opengl like osx does (I can't say for certain) it probably runs like windows xp and most linux's (not vista) and doesn't composit the video with the window (for performance sake, not crazy-osity) until it actually hits the video card and the screenshot taker your using isn't asking the video card for the composited image but rather the image before its hitting the video card.
Hehe, its all very technical.

Here's a thought on the screen capture. Perhaps the iPhone has to do what lower powered PC's have done in the past. Separate the video from the rest of the display. I know a lot of people had problems in the past trying to send what was on there desktop to TV screens. Maybe this isn't paranoia, but rather a technical problem?

This post is useless. Of course this is what's going to happen, Quicktime/MobileMusicPlayer need direct access to the GPU (as you have noted).

Erica, if you already know this, why did you make this post?

The problem with TUAW in general is that it is an AOL site. When it was weblogs and CK was running things it was cool, but things have gone downhill. Erica does seem to be just filling a quota (TUAW and all weblogs blogs pay people by the post) with this one. It is a non-story, and I agree with the technical editor above that the headline is what pisses people off so much.

Anywhoo, readers of TUAW there is a whole mac blogosphere out there run by people who care a lot about the platform. Instead of lining AOLs pockets you should line theirs. TUAW is the microsoft of Mac sites.

as stated above, she probably makes these posts to get a rise. why?

1) you a scrolling through tuaw - 1 page view
2) you see an erica post that irks you, you click it - 2 page views
3) you make a comment - 3 page views
4) you follow up to read the rest of the 3-4 pages of angry customers - 5-6 page views
5) you check back later to see where its gone - 7-10 page views

one little annoying article generates a lot of $$$ for them.

People, if you thought you could do better, why didn't you apply become a TUAW blogger, yourself?

I think you're just jealous whiners.

@what: If it is such a terrible site, why do you read it often enough to notice how good or bad it is?
