HandBrake updated to 0.9.1

Hmmm, interesting about ripping & Handbraking to different physical drives. Hadn't thought about that.

My Quad-Core G5 takes a little less than real time to Handbrake a DVD at AppleTV quality. (just under 2 hours for a 2 hour movie)

And yes, ripping them first and Handbraking in a batch is the way to go - gives me around 6 or 8 converted movies over-night that way.

I've got over 100 movies on my AppleTV and love it!

Of course, the HOLY GRAIL is to be able to use a single high-quality/small-sized video file on every device - home theatre, laptop, iPod, iPhone, etc. and have it be able to play in whatever resolution the device needs without having to re-encode it.

Another advantage of pre-ripping with MacTheRipper is that Handbrake isn't spinning your DVD for hours at a time. I rip to an external drive, then rip with Handbrake to another physical drive. That way there's no competition between reading and writing. As my G5 takes about 18 hours to rip a movie at high-quality settings, I wouldn't want my DVD to spin for that long. I'm worried about warping it. It's also noisy.

I got that one alot, because I "skew" movies and force them to 16:9, so they fill up the whole screen on my AppleTV. Glad to know it wasn't just me and that it's fixed :)

Was it just pulled off their servers?

I love this program and am glad to see the patch. Obviously you have to use a second program to get around copy protection so that you can actually back up your movies, but that's just life. I'm glad this software is available as it has made life much easier for backing up my DVDs. In a sense it's almost directly responsible for my recent surge in DVD purchases because I bought them with the intention of converting them to watch on my iPod touch. =)

That's a recent thing cause by some new DRM, from what I understand.

I think they're upset that 1) their program is getting less and less useful (see 1 chapter ripping problem) and 2), well sheesh - it's been in beta forever! Time to get to the ol' 1.0, dudes!

Seriously, though, I kid. You only hurt the ones you love. Handbrake is a great program, and it's cheap as free. Can't ask for more than that.

BTW. The HandBrake Dev themself tell you to use MacTheRipper since HandBrakes own rippers is, well, limited. The Windows Version doesn't void any copyright laws since it doesn't handle CSS, in a future Version for Mac OS X CSS support is also going to be dropped.

Would certainly luv a 'dump into iTunes and subsequently my tv' option.

@6: I totally agree. I get much better (and much faster) results when using Handbrake with a VIDEO_TS folder on my HD.

Hopefully the issue with changes to target size/quality not being set is addressed.
