Ask the Readers: iPhone games you can play with your own music?
I have a confession: I like playing games on my iPhone. But I also like listening to my own music. Like chocolate and peanut butter these are two things that should go together. The only problem is that many iPhone games have their own (generally lame) music that stops the iPod app from playing. So for the sake of myself, and others like me, I thought it would be good to get a list of iPhone / iPod touch games which allow you to play while listening to your own music. Unfortunately, I don't have the budget to buy all of the hundreds of games on the iTunes Store for research purposes, so I thought I'd throw it out to the readers. I'll get us started with a couple of my favorites: Enigmo and Moonlight Mahjong Lite (both iTunes links).

For iPhone users, press the headset button thing. For iPod Touch users, double click the home screen in any game and it'll pause and you can play your music. ANY GAME CAN LET YOU DO THIS! you're welcome...

My app has an intro movie which stops whatever music is playing before playing the movie. I would think many other applications have the same problem going on. If there is enough interest, I would add a setting to stop the movies (there are others when you get to the end and/or get a new best time). Self-promotion - my app is called Tic Tak Know.

Wait is that right?
You have a tic tac toe game that plays a movie in the begining? .. for cinematic value? Does it start with X jumping out of a plane just before it explodes, leaving O to believe that X has perished in his evil scheme, only for X to appear later, sword in hand, ready to vanquish his foe?
Yes. I think this would put me in the mood to engage in the never ending battle between X and O.
I feel very confident when I say yes. Please get rid of the video. Make every effort to not interrupt the users ipod functions and you will have much happier customers.
All Seahorse Software games - BlackJack Run, Tric-Trac, (and coming soon) Pyramid Solitaire - allow you to play your own while playing. You can either have the music playing prior to starting the game, or double-click the home button to bring up the pop-up iPod controls.

On my iPod Touch, before playing the game, I go into Music and choose what I want to listen to and start playing it. Then I immediately pause, and then go open the game. In the game, I double tap the Home button and press play on the popup player. That allows me to play music during some games. I know this is obvious to most of us, but it seems from some of the comments that some iPod Touch owners aren't aware of this.
Out of the games I've played, this works on Jirbo Break, Aqua Forest, iPint, Labyrinth LE, Break Classic, Subway Lite, and Fire Drop. With most of these (seeing as they have no in-game music), you can just play the music and then open the game w/o having to bring up the popup player - music will continue uninterrupted while you play. I actually do this w/ podcasts more than music when I'm on the road.
Not the headset button the "Home Button". I'm pretty sure your iPod has one of those.

and i'm annoyed that tetris doesn't.
In addition to being a great casual game for the iPhone/Touch, "Dizzy Bee" seems to allow one to completely turn off "Sounds" while playing the game. There are some really nice touches to the game and they even have a lite/free version to check out.
