New MacBook unboxing photos
If, like myself, you can't tear yourself away from your G4 iBook long enough to upgrade to the latest and greatest consumer laptop from Cupertino, our friend Joe Russell saves you the fuss with his MacBook unboxing pics on Flickr. There are notable changes in the packaging:
"Opening the box, first thing I noticed was that it's virtually identical to the iPhone 3G experience... the back of the lid is black softy foam, and when lifting the black tab it brings the machine up and forward."
Joe describes the box as "small but dense." As we pointed out, Apple is trying to ship more by making less packaging (both economical and green). If you've been itching to see the MacBook unboxing experience, consider yourself gratified.
Thanks Joe!

Awesome man! I'm on my late 2007 MacBook 2.2 Ghz "Santa Rosa" model, that I purchased in December, but I'm ready for an upgrade already. These new MBs are gorgeous! I want one badly!
Leland: I agree! SOMEONE get me one. lmao.
Anybody want to buy me one of the new MacBooks? Please?

think about it, most of the laptop is green and recyclable now, the biggest waste is probably the packaging. make the packaging reusable.
I tend to keep around computer boxes for Ebay/Warranty/Find the serial number purposes, but how recyclable would the box be? I think it's all well and good that a laptop is green, but Apple laptops tend to lead long lives, passing from user to user until it reaches either total breakdown or obsolescence. The boxes pretty much just take up space once the user owns it, either in the landfill or in their closet.
Can they make the foam in the package biodegradable? What if they sold it in a box that you could tear up and mix in with the compost?
Of course, this is a minor concern. It's a great step in the right direction, and there's much bigger offenders in the packaging world. Individually wrapped prunes and the HP printed paper licenses that come in a big box come to mind.
Congrats! It's lovely

Could you tell us how the new screen of the 13" inch is?
I mean, not only how the glass is compared to the coating, but also how good the screen in general is.
The "old" MacBooks had a screen which had SO MUCH BLEED from top to bottom, it was so much color and brightness difference, that was the main argument for me not to buy one.
Is it still like this in the new ones?
I haven't noticed anything like that on my new macbook. Also, I've sat with a light behind me and not had any glare/anything to stop me seeing the screen normally.

But I'm still a little carefull about this and will check it out in a store, first.
The old MacBook's screen was so bad ... I wonder why this wasn't a big topic.
It was when the new iMacs came out. Because it's the same on the cheap 20".
But it's a lot worse on the old MacBooks.
You can clearly see a strong gradient of brightness and colour from top to bottom. Makes it not only bad, but catastrophical for anything more than typing and browsing.
OMG...its beautiful
TOO BAD I WILL NEVER OWN ONE
NO FIREWIRE NO DEAL
and that is sad because i really wanted one badly...but i CANT afford the PRO...i wish i could but its not going to happen...really SAD here...
especially since my Macbook 2006 is doing this annoying thing where the cursor will move from where i am typing to where the cursor is because it is apparently doing this because of the palmrest is pushing the track button...its really annoying since i touch type..lol
oh well guess i will have to search out a Macbook Pro on ebay to be my next portable...its sad cuz i really think the new Macbooks are a work of art...very classy and beautiful...oh well maybe they will wise up and put the Firewire back in next year
Do the new laptops run really hot like the older Macbook Pro does?

Considering I'm more old-school, I actually gave the migration assistant a go... gotta say, it went w/o a hitch and I'm back in action in only the time it took to roll my 200GB of data over from my other machine.
First observation in the past few hours: it's fast as grease lighting.
Color me impressed, and I haven't even gone 4GB of RAM yet or 7200rpm on the drive (both are no-brainers folks). Yes, I'm going OWC for those bits n pieces.
J.
Actually looks pretty similar to the MacBook Air packaging, you can see a clear move towards the packaging that was introduced with the iPhone.
