That touchable sensation: Apple sends invites for January 27 event

It seems like only hours ago, on the Talkcast, that we were discussing the notable absence of any invitations to Apple's rumored end-of-January event. Where were they? Was all this hype nothing but a smokescreen? When would the word be given, flights booked, liveblogs scheduled and iPhones charged? What were we waiting for?
Who's ready for something insanely great?
Note: As several folks have pointed out, there's another major public event on 1/27, in Washington. Reader Nicholas Lohr offered the bon mot that while the President will be delivering the State of the Union in the evening, Steve Jobs will be giving us the Slate of the Union in the morning. Ha!

I would rather see the iPhone on Verizon than a tablet... I am so sick of AT&T.
A tablet would be cool, but would have zero practical use for me.

I totally agree with you Chase, At&t sucks, hoping iPhone will be going to Verizon!

ah yes, the much anticipated new product from Apple Inc ... the iTag ... an easy-to-use and residual-free graffiti tool that attaches and integrates directly with your iPhone 2G/3G/3GS. GPS integration allows the user to map out their own tags as well as those of their friends.
Finally, a tool for the urban youth in all of us

After all the 10" touch screen orders from China, I suspect a tablet. But I hope its the new iPhone!!

The iPhone 3XL?

They'd better update the MacBook Pro's or I am going postal!
It'd be my first Mac, and I'm not sure how much longer I can cope with this Eee knowing that soon I'll have a MBP! (hopefully)

dude, relax...it's a computer
TheBigR said 12:56PM on 1-18-2010
Yes, but it's my first Mac and it'll be a mahoosive upgrade from my Eee 1000H...
Joachim Bean said 1:00PM on 1-18-2010
Why don't you just make it a Hackintosh?
TheBigR said 1:02PM on 1-18-2010
Already have done, with my Eee.
However, it's still absolute pants.
It does basic things, but nothing else.
Anyway, I've wanted a real Mac for at least 5 years now, which is 1/3rd of my life, and I finally have enough money to get one.
So, erm, yeah. You don't have to get all "Dude, relax." etc. on me.
Jordan said 1:13PM on 1-18-2010
haha wow, you're 15. Now I know why you want a Mac, you think you'll be cool.
TheBigR said 1:18PM on 1-18-2010
What the fuck is your problem, douchebag?
No, it's not to "be cool" as you state.
Stop stereotyping teenagers as vain braindeads.
I have wanted a MacBook for the design of the computer and because I love the screen size. Now I've finally got the money, which I've saved ages for, and I'm just waiting for the new MacBook Pro's.
I made a joke about going postal and you start accusing me of being vain.
What is your problem with me wanting a MacBook Pro?
Jordan said 1:24PM on 1-18-2010
Just the way you talk about it, the way you think you know all about design, tech, and everything. If you are 15 like you say you are, then you stated you cared at age 10 about the design of the MB, and that's what made you want it. Newsflash, 5 years ago MBs were still ugly designs.
Because you love the screen size? Wow, man. The MBP has the same screen size as any laptop out there. Maybe not your EEEEEEEEEEE pc, but any normal laptop out there.
I could stop stereotyping teenagers as vain braindeads, but look, you have an Eee pc and now want a MBP.....what are those two usually associated with?
TheBigR said 1:30PM on 1-18-2010
Yes actually, I was 10.
I saw the MacBook and loved the look of it.
And no, the MBP 13" doesn't have the same screen size as normal laptops.
15.4"/15.6" is the standard screen size.
You clearly aren't an Apple fan, so why the fuck are you on an Apple tech blog?
And you still haven't answered my problem, what is your problem with me owning a MacBook Pro?
Ramonchiux said 12:20AM on 1-19-2010
Whatever your reasons for wanting one I can only applaud your dedication. If you really worked hard and saved for a while for it, great. Keep it up. Patience and perseverance are 2 character traits that are hard to come by. Now, if they include a mobile quad processor, oled screen and a bluray burner. I will be so jealous!
TheBigR said 1:45PM on 1-18-2010
Hahaha, yeah.
Although, something tells me it'll be Arrandale.
Either way, an awesome upgrade from a netbook.
Thank you for a sensible comment, too. Much appreciated, especially when the alternative is a douche calling you vain and braindead for owning a netbook and wanting a MBP.
